02.08.-30.08.2019.

Museum “Riga Art Nouveau Centre” and "Riga Art Space" invite the inhabitants and guests of Riga to visit the exhibition “Art Nouveau in Riga. A Decade of the Collection” and attend guided tours in the exhibition each July and August Friday at 14.00 and 16.00 at exhibition hall “Riga Art Space” at Kungu iela 3, Riga.

Exhibition “Art Nouveau in Riga. A Decade of the Collection” in a diverse and interactive way shows the culture and history heritage of Art Nouveau in the European context and introduces its visitors to the aesthetic world and mode of life of the beginnings of the 20th century. The exhibition presents the purposefully and accurately created collections the museum “Riga Art Nouveau Centre” has stocked over a decade: glass, metal, porcelain, printed materials etc. The exhibits also feature the parlour and dining room interiors in the Art Nouveau style characteristic to the beginnings of the 20th century. On show there are paintings by Janis Rozentals, Bernhards Boherts, Karlis Brencens and other artists.

The exhibition was inspired by the 700th Anniversary Exhibition of Riga where various industrialists and artisans demonstrated their achievements. In 1901, a whole new city of wooden Art Nouveau buildings was created in Esplanade Park in the centre of Riga where the visitors could learn the modern trends and the diverse reflections of the new style in all possible areas: furniture manufacturing, glass and porcelain production, applied art and graphic book design.

To introduce the visitors to the exhibition the museum “Riga Art Nouveau Centre” invites everybody to attend guided tours. The guides dressed in costumes of early 1900s will help the visitors feel the atmosphere of the epoch and get acquainted with the exhibition, its concept and diverse range of exhibits.

Authors of the exhibition concept “Art Nouveau in Riga. A Decade of the Collection”: Agrita Tipāne, Liesma Markova, scenic designer – Liesma Markova.
