RIGA ART SPACE

Ansis Rozentāls’ solo exhibition 'A Look Around'

02.02.-31.03.2024. 11.00-18.00

From 2 February to 31 March, the Riga Art Space will host a solo exhibition “A Look Around” by the painter Ansis Rozentāls.

The exhibition “A Look Around” introduces visitors to the artist's latest series of paintings, which explore the transformation of the landscape genre through the prism of contemporary art. The exhibition is a kind of visual essay in which Ansis Rozentāls will explain his vision of landscape, its role in his life and at the same time the eternal and changing essence of nature. His works show a strong presence of brushstrokes and an intense use of colour, creating a dynamic and lively visual language. The title of the exhibition “A Look Around” reflects this diversity and invites the viewer to explore the surrounding environment, paying attention to both the vastness and the details. In his works, the artist combines classical elements of painting with experimental techniques and media to reveal the landscape as a symbolic and emotional space. Viewers are offered the opportunity to experience and interpret these works, which are both visually appealing and thought-provoking, fostering a deeper understanding of landscape painting as an art form.

Ansis Rozentāls graduated from the Painting Department of the Art Academy of Latvia with a Master's degree in 2018. Currently studying at the LMA in the professional doctoral programme. Since 2009 he has regularly participated in group exhibitions in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Italy, Germany, China, Belgium, Egypt, etc. In 2021, he received the Latvian State Forests Art Scholarship and in 2018 - the Valdemārs Tone Artist Scholarship. He has participated in painting the facades of several buildings in Riga. He actively paints en plein air and participates in projects abroad, of which he would like to highlight the project in Paris, where he painted for a whole week at the Grand Palais Éphémère.  He uses classical painting as the primary element of his work. Painting, in his view, is the purest form of expression and the foundation of everything.

The exhibition is organized by the Association of Culture Institutions of Riga State City Council and the exhibition hall Riga Art Space with the support of the Riga City Council.
