As part of the public programme of the exhibition “HOW ARE YOU TODAY? Emotional intelligence”, supported by the Dr Ilze Aizsilniece Foundation, we invite you to a conversation with Prof. Dr. psych. Ieva Bite and Associate Professor Ph.D. Ņikita Bezborodovs entitled “The Connection Between Emotions and Physical Health.”
Emotions help us quickly recognize what matters to us and prompt us to act—whether by reaching out to others, hiding, fleeing, or protecting ourselves. That is why we experience emotions not only in our minds but also in our bodies, for example through a racing heartbeat, muscle tension, a lump in the throat, or sensations of heaviness or lightness. Prolonged stress, anxiety, anger, or sadness can affect sleep, cardiovascular health, immune function, and the perception of pain. At the same time, emotional safety, closeness, and joy can support recovery and enhance overall well-being.
In this discussion, we will explore what contemporary science tells us about the relationship between emotions and physical health, how to distinguish myths from facts, and what each of us can do to care for both our emotional and physical well-being.
The event will be held in Latvian.
The event is part of the public programme of the multimedia research project “HOW ARE YOU TODAY? Emotional intelligence”, supported by the Dr Ilze Aizsilniece Foundation. Dedicated to physician Ilze Aizsilniece (1966–2025), the exhibition brings together works by 28 Latvian artists and invites visitors to explore emotions through the perspectives of art, science, medicine, and personal experience.
Free admission.
