Riga Photography Biennial 2020. Discussion ‘Visions of Future’

18.09.2020. 18:00-19:30

The notion of post-internet has frequently featured in contemporary art exhibitions and theoretical articles of the last decade. Media theorist and artist Marisa Olson was one of the first to start using the term in the discourse of contemporary art to denote art that a) could not have existed before the internet (technologically, phenomenologically, existentially) and b) has been formally in some way influenced by the internet.

The goal of the discussion is to analyze what possibilities and challenges, both content- and form- wise, the internet and new technologies have brought to contemporary art strategies up until now, and what could we expect in the nearest future. While sharing their observations and looking at their own creative practices, participants of the conversation will try to identify the most current post-internet phenomena in Latvian contemporary art.

Members of the panel are art theorist and curator Šelda Puķīte, multimedia artists Santa France and Līga Spunde, and playwright Evarts Melnalksnis. Discussion will be moderated by curator and art researcher Līna Birzaka-Priekule.

Language: Latvian, Free entrance starting from 17:40.
