Exhibition of Baltic contemporary graphic arts 'On the Edge of Change'

11.06.-06.08.2023. 11.00-18.00

From 11 June till 6 August, an exhibition of Baltic contemporary graphic arts, ON THE EDGE OF CHANGE will be held in exhibition hall “Rīgas mākslas telpa” (Riga Art Space), as part of the international graphic arts festival PRINTMAKING IN 2023.

A great number of Baltic artists of various generations shall participate in the exhibition this year, reflecting on the topic of changes; the leitmotif of this festival is “On the edge of change”. The phrase refers to both the current mood of the society regarding the potential change of the order of things, and transformations that everything and everyone inevitably faces as materials decay and transform into other elements.

Can a work of art be eternal? What sort of an impulse makes a person or a society wake up from a deep sleep? At which point do recent memories turn into nostalgia until they fade away for good? When does a real intellect become an artificial one? We are always on an edge of change, but the line between “then” and “now” may not always be easily grasped. Printmaking, too, once raised concern in the society about the fast exchange of information it offered, being a simple and fast method of reproduction of text.

The opening of the festival will be held on Saturday, 10 June, from 5 PM, with participation of legendary collective of international artists NON GRATA.
This year, Latvia will be represented by artists Aija Bley, Elīna Elere, Marta Folkmane, Raitis Hrolovičs, Mārīte Kluša, Ernests Kļaviņš, Leonards Laganovskis, Ilze Lībiete and Jānis Murovskis; from Estonia – by Peeter Allik, Jüri Arrak, Anonymous Boh, Toomas Kuusing, Leonhard Lapin, Regina-Mareta Soonsein and Taje Tross; and from Lithuania – by Vaiva Kovieraitė Trumpė, Evaldas Mikalauskis, Mikolajus Vilutis un Marta Vosylite.
