The exhibition explores human interaction with artificial intelligence and algorithmic systems, as well as the human relationships shaped and influenced by them. In this sense, it can be seen as an artist’s attempt to create a “portrait of the contemporary”– a reflection on technology’s impact on society at large and the ways it reverberates through culture, including its influence on artistic production itself.

Gints Gabrāns is an installation and multimedia artist whose work has been exhibited widely in Latvia and internationally. In 2007, with his project Paramirrors, Gabrāns represented Latvia at the 52nd Venice Biennale.

The exhibition is organized by Riga City Municipality Institution RIGA CONTEMPORARY ART SPACE, with the support of the Riga City Municipality, Malduguns beer, Dateks and Institute of Numerical Modelling, University of Latvia. The high-performance computer required for Gints Gabrāns’ artificial intelligence installation is provided by the custom PC company Dateks.lv.

At the Institute of Numerical Modelling of the University of Latvia, supercomputers are used both by researchers and companies as digital laboratories in which scientists study and describe natural and technological processes – air and water flow, heat and energy transfer, and the behaviour of materials under various conditions – as well as develop artificial intelligence models and solutions for the analysis of these complex systems. The institute also carries out numerical modelling of silicate crystals, which underpins the development of processors and microchips.
