Sarmīte Māliņa entered the Latvian contemporary art scene in the early 1990s, participating in group exhibitions that boldly challenged the visual art norms of the time. Her work quickly distinguished itself through a striking sense of restraint and clarity.
As part of the exhibition series GIANTS, the installation From the Outside Looking In, originally created for Latvia – XX Century Somersault. 1940–1990, is presented anew. The work offers a contemplative exploration of perception, distance, and the shifting nature of historical memory. Māliņa not only reflects on the past but also invites viewers to consider how our understanding of history is shaped today.
